Hugh Maxwell is a self-taught landscape and fine art photographer who has been taking images of the natural landscape with a camera since the early 1990's. He is based in Ayrshire and often travels throughout Scotland.

"Photography is an art and I see myself as an artist working with natural light in all its forms to capture the beauty of the landscape"

A plastic pocket-sized film camera that took panoramics was his first venture into photography and this was later followed by a 35mm Pentax film SLR. Hugh now captures most of his images using both full-frame and medium-format Pentax digital cameras.

"The camera is simply a tool that allows me to transform my vision into reality through the process of creating a photograph."

His work has been published in magazines such as Outdoor Photography and Amateur Photography as well as mainstream publications such as The Scots Magazine and Scottish Memories Magazine. Clients have included Visit Scotland, Stenlake Publishing and the Kilmarnock Standard.

"I do minimal post-processing work as I believe in getting the image right in camera first and only press the shutter when I feel an emotional connection to the scene."
